Product Introduction
Natural barium sulfate is also called barite powder, of which the barite is chemically composed of BaSO4 and the crystal belongs to sulfate minerals in the orthorhombic (rhombic) crystal system. It is usually in the form of thick tabular or columnar crystals, and mostly exists as dense massive aggregates or tubular or granular aggregates. As for pure barite powder, it is colorless and transparent; if containing impurities, it is dyed into various colors such as white streak, glassy luster, and transparent to semitransparent. There is a perfect cleavage in three directions, with an included angle equal to or close to 90°. The Mohs hardness is 3-3.5 and the specific gravity is 4.0-4.6.
Application Fields
Barite is mainly used in petroleum, chemical, paint, filler and other industrial sectors, 80-90% of which are used as mud weighting agents in oil drilling. Specific applications are as follows:
(1) It is applied to oil drilling. The circulating mud weighting agent used in the rotary drilling of oil and gas wells cools the drill bit, takes away the cuttings, lubricates the drill pipe, seals the hole wall, controls the oil and gas pressure, and prevents the natural flow of an oil well.
(2) It is applied to the chemical production of barium carbonate, barium chloride, barium sulfate, lithopone, barium hydroxide, barium oxide and other barium compounds which are widely used in reagents, catalysts, refined sugar, textile, fire prevention, fireworks, and coagulants for synthetic rubber.
(3) It is applied to plastics, pesticides, steel surface hardening, fluorescent powder, fluorescent lamp, welding flux, grease additive, etc.
(4) Glass deoxidizer, clarifier and fluxing agent to increase the optical stability, luster and strength of glass
(5) Rubber, plastics, vehicle braking materials, packaging bags, high-grade paint, radiation-proof gravity walls in hospitals, and other industries
(6) Paint filler, brightener and weighting agent
(7) Building concrete aggregate
(8) Paving materials which weigh on buried pipelines in marshy areas and replace lead plates for shielding nuclear facilities, atomic energy factories and X-ray laboratories, etc., thus prolonging the service life of pavement.
